You can baste away in the sun, oiled to perfection with the rays beating on your skin. You can take a relaxing nap in a tanning bed, or stand up for a quick warmth of UV light. You can even achieve a fantastic tan without burning the sunless way. There are many ways to tan, and each way has their own set of supplies. - Natural sunlight has vitamin D, which is vital. However, exposing yourself to sun too often can aid skin damage and cancer. Some supplies include sunscreen, large brimmed hats and sunglasses, Prevent Blindness America recommends. Health suggests wearing sun protective factor, or SPF, of at least 15 to prevent sunburn. However, if your goal is to get dark, use baby oil or suntan oil.
- Use indoor tanning lotions that include bronzers and tan activators. Use eye goggles that are small enough to protect the lids without causing tan lines. Place a small sticker on you before tanning and remove it after to see how tan you have become. Use towels to dry off bed and yourself. Tanning bed cleaner or surface cleaner should be available to disinfect each bed.
- Before sunless tanning, always exfoliate first and then use moisturizer. You can sunless tan at a salon where they will mist tanner on you or you can buy liquids or sprays for home use. Use a barrier cream made of Vaseline, vitamin E or cocoa butter to stop finger and toe nail discoloration. Wear a shower cap over your hair. Dab the excess tan off, blend in dark patches or remove tan from bottom of feet and palms with a dark towel.
