- 1). Determine the toddler’s interests, be it cartoons, books or pets. For a child that is a niece, nephew or acquaintance, ask his parents to list specifics.
- 2). Choose one theme from which to create your collage. Too many themes and your collage will appear as a grouping of random images without direction or meaning.
- 3). Find pictures, photos, stickers or other craft items that represent this theme. For example, if the theme is “Winnie the Pooh,” use photos from story or coloring books, Winnie the Pooh stickers and flat foam images of honey pots, bears, tigers, piglets, kangaroos and owls to decorate your collage. Be sure to add some pictures of trees, as Winnie the Pooh lives in the 100 Acre Woods. Add texture by covering the poster board with fabric that represents the characters from the story book.
- 4). Cut out the images and arrange them onto a piece of colorful, thick poster board, overlapping some images as you work.
- 5). Apply glue on the back of the images you have placed on your poster board, once you have arranged them as you want them. Allow the glue to dry.
- 6). Place the collage into a poster frame. Use a poster frame with a Plexiglas window instead of a glass window, as this will protect the toddler from getting cut should the collage fall off the wall.
