There are so many things to learn in this practice, both on an emotional level and a physical one as well.
You therefore need to avoid the following during your yoga sessions.
- Pushing your body too far
Your class may have experienced clients than you, but that does not mean you have to follow their lead.
Your instructor should be informed of any new client in a class to guide him/her through the practice individually.
Some poses might look easy and you will find yourself trying them out, only to realize that you are straining other parts of your body.
Do not be tempted to try any new technical skill by yourself.
- Lack of concentration and balance during the session
You need to have a relaxed mind and use little effort to successfully enter the peaceful state of mind.
Yoga has a way of releasing stress through specific pressure points on your body.
This may require you to stretch or pose in a way that can stress the other side.
Therefore, you need to balance every exercise you do during the session.
Failure to this, such stress could lead to internal damage to your muscles or joints, which take a lot of time and rest to heel.
Just relax!
- Holding your breathe for too long
As this happens, people concentrate more on the pose and forget to breathe! This could cause lack of oxygen in some parts of the body like the brain, which leads to passing out or fainting during yoga.
If the session has become challenging, always inform the instructor instead of taking up more challenging poses that could cause more harm than good to your body.
