- The National Asthma Education and Prevention Program is focused on education about the disease. This is done by addressing the population to make them aware of asthma symptoms. NAEPP also works closely with healthcare providers to improve research and patient knowledge.
- Asthma affects 15 million people and the cost of treatment is in the billions. Despite the treatments available, there are still about 5,000 asthma-related deaths in the U.S. alone.
- NAEPP increases public awareness of asthma and its symptoms. Through education programs and connections with healthcare providers, they hope to improve detection, control and treatment of the condition.
- NAEPP develops materials for and from doctors about asthma. The coordinating committee of the organization includes representation from such groups as the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; American Lung Association; American Medical Association; and American Academy of Family Physicians.
- The National Asthma Education and Prevention Program organized and created "Expert Panel Report: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma." They have continued to update the document periodically.
