Difference Between Size 2 vs. 3 Nuk Pacifier

    About Orthodontic Pacifiers

    • All sizes of Nuk pacifiers are orthodontic to encourage healthy oral development. The flattened nipple is made of silicone or latex and surrounded by a plastic shield with ventilation holes. The Nuk nipple shape encourages a natural sucking action, supporting a baby's developing palate and jaw. The shield is the same on size 2 and size 3 Nuk pacifiers, but the nipple is larger on models made for older babies.

    Nuk Size 2 Features

    • Nuk size 2 pacifiers are designed for babies between 6 and 18 months old. Babies develop their first milk teeth at around 6 months, and so the nipple in a Nuk size 1 pacifier is too small for an older baby who may be able to bite through the soft silicone or latex of a pacifier created for a newborn baby.

    Nuk Size Three Features

    • Nuk size 3 is designed for infants aged 18 months and older. A toddler in this age group has most of his front milk teeth in the area that is used to suck a pacifier. A full set of incisors develops between 6 and 18 months, and so the Nuk size 3 is designed to cope with the stress caused by top and bottom teeth on the nipple. It is has a slightly larger nipple than the Nuk size 2, appropriate for an 18-month-old infant.

    Color Co-ordinated Size Guide

    • Nuk pacifiers are available in a range of bright colors, but there are markings on the throw-away packaging to identify products in the appropriate age group for your baby. The Nuk size 2 pacifier is identified by a pink "6+m" symbol on the packaging and the size 3 is identified by a blue "18+m" symbol.
