Types Of Props

    Seasonal Props

    • Seasonal props can cover anything from holidays to the four seasons. Add a Christmas tree and some presents to a scene and it will look like early Christmas morning. Place an Easter basket and some Easter eggs around a child for a spring-themed portrait. Dress a child in her winter best and place a snowman in the background of a photo and there will be no doubt that it is a wintertime picture.

    Seating

    • Seats can also be used as props. Place a few siblings together in a wagon for a family picture. Put a bench in a scene and gather the family around that. A tree stump can make a great prop for families to pose around.

Put a small child in a big chair for a humorous portrait. Use an old washtub for baby to sit in for a portrait with an old-fashioned look. Place a newborn baby in a blanket-lined basket or on top of a padded bench.

    Clothing

    • A big, fluffy skirt worn by a young girl can make a gorgeous photography prop. Place silly hats on mom and dad to get a few laughs out of the kids, or give goofy hats to each person in the photo.

A nice knit headband ot a pair of angel wings on a baby girl can contribute to jaw-dropping photos. Provide some old-fashioned clothing for a young brother and sister for old-time photos.

    Posing Props

    • Posing props are used to pose people around for their pictures. A child holding on to a big number one for his first birthday is a common picture. A graduating student might sit on top of the year she graduated for her pictures.

A young child is often seen holding onto letter blocks in portraits. Some portrait studios spell out a child's name with letter blocks and pose the child around the blocks.
