- 1). Hold the bow with your non-dominant hand, then hold the bow out and aim your non-dominant shoulder at the target. Place your feet shoulder-width apart, then slide your dominant foot back, so that your two feet form a straight line pointing directly at the target.
- 2). Load the arrow by pointing the bow at the ground, then place the arrow on the arrow rest. Attach the back of the arrow to the bow string at the arrow nock. If your arrow has vanes, or fletching (rear feathers), turn the shaft so that only one vane points away from the bow.
- 3). Hold the bow towards the target. Ensure that your inner elbow is parallel to the ground and the bow is held vertical. Grab the string and arrow by hooking the index finger around the string and positioned over the top of the arrow nock. Hook and place your middle and ring finger on the string and under the arrow nock. Pull the string toward your face to your full draw. This will be near the chin or the corner of your mouth.
- 4). Relax your first three fingers at once to release the string once you've correctly sighted in your target.
