- 1). Slip a flat-head screwdriver into the small notch on the broader end of the center cover. The center cover is where the three spokes of the steering wheel meet. Use the screwdriver to pry the cover off the steering wheel.
- 2). Remove the 5/16-inch hex bolt in the center of the steering wheel with a socket wrench. The bolt secures the steering wheel to steering extension shaft below the steering.
- 3). Grasp the steering wheel at each side with your hands, and rock the steering wheel off the splines adapter. Remove the steering wheel from the mower. You can now access the rest of the steering column for repairs.
