How to Make an Herbal Broth to Soothe a Sore Throat

    • 1). Chop 1 tsp. of fresh sage. You can use dried sage instead, but use only 1/2 tsp. Sage has antiseptic and astringent properties that make it especially effective for treating sore throats. It also contains vitamins A and B, niacin, potassium, calcium and iron. You can also burn sage in the home to purify the air.

    • 2). Chop 1 tsp. of fresh sweet marjoram or use ½ tsp. of dry sweet marjoram. Sweet marjoram, like sage, has antiseptic properties. It also has tonic and sedative properties, as well as a nice amount of vitamin C, making it an excellent herb for treating cold and flu symptoms. Many singers gargle water infused with sweet marjoram to prevent hoarseness.

    • 3). Combine the herbs in 1 cup of boiling water. Cover and steep for 10 minutes.

    • 4). Strain out the herbs, add a pinch of salt and slowly sip the broth.
