Was Direct Marketing From Home My Dream?

They say hindsight is 20/20 largely because it is a fixed entity. We know what has happened and can examine it through memory. While I can remember the dreams about working from home, direct marketing from home wasn't one of them.

The likely reason for this is that I wasn't aware of this industry while I drove over 3 hours every day to and from work. I had no idea that I possessed the ability to run a direct marketing business, while I spent between 8 and 16 hours solving complex, technical, telecom issues for businesses all over the world. In my downtime, in front of my computer, I'd never seen or been exposed to the possibility of satisfying my dreams by direct marketing from home.

For a long time I wrestled with the reality of having my dreams fulfilled momentarily while I searched for a job that didn't exist. The time given to me was indeed precious, and clearly hindsight shows me what a treasure it has been. Yet the lingering suspicion that another job would come along and steal me away from my family and the precious moments would again become something I could only long for.

I also wrestled with the reality that dictated the end result of not replenishing our finances by producing income. Sure it was great spending time with my family, but the peace that should have been part of that experience was absent. Running out of money would have meant losing our home, and that wouldn't have been enjoyable at all.

It was like only half of the dream had become reality. I was home with my family, doing and seeing things that I'd missed doing and seeing for years. Not only was I there for the Kodak moments, I was the one taking most of them. My relationship with my wife and children grew stronger because of the time I was allowed to invest. I wasn't experiencing life with them over the phone or after the fact.

The half of the dream that was missing kept me from fully appreciating the half I'd already obtained. Without the ability to sustain our experience as a family, the dream was slowly coming to an end.

I can't imagine in this moment how to accurately describe this sensation. If I sat down to a meal that tasted better than anything I'd ever eaten, and my appetite kept increasing with every bite, while the food slowly disappeared, I might only catch one aspect of what was really happening in my heart and mind.

Never experiencing something is much easier to bear, than experiencing something and having it ripped away from you.

Before I'd ever known what it was like to spend every day at home with my family, the idea appealed to me. Now that I've lived the dream, I'll never stop fighting to keep it alive. Fortunately the ability I'd never been aware of is making that dream a reality every day.

For me, it isn't simply the awesome income potential of direct marketing that makes it appealing. I've been able to weigh the difference between having things, and having a lifestyle. You can work endless hours, even travel the world to become wealthy. You cannot replace the time you lose with your family.

Direct marketing from home was never my dream, but my dream has become my reality because of what this business makes possible. Among my network of associates and friends I hear similar stories again and again. Whatever dreams they had remained unobtainable until they discovered their ability to do what I do.
