- 1). Place the lower control arm on the press with the ball joint hole centered on the center of the press. The press comes with pressing blocks that hold the piece on either side so that you can press a part into the other part without worrying about depth. For this example, set up the pressing blocks so there is enough depth between the bottom of the press and the top of the pressing block that the entire replacement ball joint can fit in the space.
- 2). Insert the replacement ball joint in the upper control arm, aligned so that the pivot of the ball joint goes forward and back in the upper arm. The ball joint will sit in there loosely until the press comes down.
- 3). Start pressing the object by pulling down on the large handle on the side of the press to lower the press onto the ball joint. Once it touches the ball joint, double-check your alignment so that it seats correctly.
- 4). Pump the handle on the press as the press bar lowers down onto the ball joint. The pressing blocks will keep the upper control arm stable, and the press will focus its power on the ball joint, since that's the only item that can move. The job is complete when the ball joint is flush with the top of the upper control arm.
