For some people, there is nothing better than getting their hands dirty.
They might get them dirty by working on cars all day and getting grease and oil everywhere.
They may like to work outside in their gardens pulling weeds and planting shrubs in the dirt.
There is another creative way that people like to get their hands dirty that we initially don't associate with dirty hands; sculpting a piece of art.
Now it doesn't take just any ordinary person to sit down and sculpt a beautiful art masterpiece.
Most sculptors have had years of practice molding their artworks into the shapes they so desire.
But if this is the way you want to get your hands dirty, than the clay is simply waiting for you.
It doesn't take much to create a sculpture.
All you really need to get started is the clay.
Creating a piece of Mexican clay pottery is a great way to begin.
This special clay is self-hardening, which means that it doesn't have to be fired in a kiln for it to harden.
This clay will actually shrink a little bit when it dries, so make sure to keep that in mind when forming your shapes.
This is the time for you to let out your creative side.
Let your imagination run wild with all of the ideas you might have for what you would like to create.
You might decide to mold some sort of decorative bowl or plate.
You could try to get real technical and use sculpting compounds to shape a figurine of sorts.
You may also attempt to make a keepsake box or picture frame.
Anything that you can imagine, you can now create.
You can roll out the clay into balls, squares, lines or any other shape that you want to attach to your sculpture.
If you really want to experiment with different textures you can use a clay extruder.
Just remember that if you make a mistake or simply don't like what you've created you can always start over.
Try to be free with your sculpting and don't limit your ideas.
You might be surprised what you can create! Once you have finished sculpting your piece of art, it is time to let the clay sit for a while until dried.
After the clay is sufficiently dried the piece will be hardened but not waterproof.
Now it is time again to be creative.
You can use any variety of paints that you like to paint your sculpture.
You can simply paint it one simple color or choose to paint a complex pattern.
You should then coat your sculpture with a varnish to seal it.
This will also ensure that your sculpture is waterproof.
Now your masterpiece is complete! Creating your very own sculpture is a new and exciting way to get your hands dirty.
Only after you wash your hands, you'll have a beautiful piece of artwork to proudly display.
