Summer programs for gifted youth provide children with an opportunity to pursue specific areas of interest. From neuroscience to nanotechnology, there are programs to appeal to a wide variety of students. Programs are available for children in kindergarten through to grade 12 as both day camps for younger children and residential camps for young adults. - The Center for Talented Youth offers a broad range of academic summer programs for gifted children between the grades of two and 12. Prior to enrollment, potential participants undergo academic assessments. Both residential and day programs are available. Programs for children between grades two and four include Journeys and Explorations, Geometry and Spatial Sense, Explorations in Writing and the Ancient World from 2000 B.C.E. to 300 C.E. Children between the grades of four and six can choose topics such as Pirates: History and Culture, The Middle Ages, Great Discoveries in Mathematics, Sensation and Perception and Examining the Evidence. For children in grades seven and higher, program options include Beginning Ancient Greek, Latin, Principles of Reasoning, Introduction to Biomedical Science and the History of Disease. Students also participate in age-appropriate extracurricular activities such as scavenger hunts, carnivals and talent shows.

cty.jhu.edu - The Davison THINK Summer Institute takes place at the University of Nevada over a period of three weeks during which students reside on campus in dormitories. The program is available to qualified children between the ages of 13 and 16 and provides students with six college credits. Applicants must meet a minimum SAT score and receive two letters of reference. Divided into morning and afternoon segments, the academic day includes courses in Mind, Brain and Learning, Introduction to Public Health Biology, Introduction to Computing, Statistics, Philosophy, and Nano and Micro Technology.

The programs are 15 days in length throughout which students select five academic topics to learn. Topics for children in grades four through six include Going to Court and Fantasy Fiction Fun. Children in grades seven and eight can select topics including Creative Math Paths, Roots of Human Behavior, Existentialism Essentials and Geometric Highlights. Topics for students in grades nine through 11 include Applications of Chemistry and Medical Research. Students participate in nightly activities including student theaters, game shows and movie nights and go on field trips every Saturday to destinations like the California Science Aquarium and Six Flags.
