New Homeowner Cleaning Tips

Making a new house you've just purchased into your own personal home is a wonderful thing, but it also requires a lot of planning and work.
One of the first things you'll want to address is a completely cleaning of the home from top to bottom.
This is a good way to begin "breaking in" a home and making it yours, whether or not it's a new home or you bought it from the previous occupant.
Here are some things you'll be sure you want to address.
Get the carpets professionally cleaned.
This is one of the most important things to clean when moving into a home.
There is a lot of undesirable dirt and dander that collects in carpet fibers.
Even if you don't have pets or children - and all the more so if you do - you'll want to breathe easy knowing that the carpets are free of external dirt and nastiness when you have a new home.
Many big box stores offer professional carpet cleaning services and most towns also have locally owned cleaning services which offer a more personable service.
Dust the corners, especially with cathedral ceilings.
Sometimes people move out in a hurry and don't clean up after themselves.
Sometimes new homes sit on the market for awhile and bugs and spiders set up shop in the corner.
Either way, be sure to dust and remove the cobwebs from all those hard to reach places when moving in.
(A long broom can help snag cobwebs that are too high up to reach.
) Make sure the attic / basement is bug and rodent free.
Attics often get ignored because they are out of sight.
But the perils they can bring will surely come in sight if you don't stop them in the first place.
Get a professional to take a look for termites or evidence of rodents.
This is also true of basements.
When first moving into a new place, this is the best time to address such issues - if they exist - before they have time to turn into a problem.
Get the chimney professional cleaned.
For safety reasons, you'll want to get the chimney professionally cleaned out every 12 months.
There is no better time to start than when you've first moved in.
Get the laundry lines cleaned out.
Many companies that clean chimneys can also remove any dirt and whatnot that's collected in the laundry lines that go from your dryer to the outdoors.
External dirt and ash in these pipe lines carry a fire hazard.
For piece of mind, it's a good idea to get these cleaned out.
