How to Use Green Travel

    • 1). Walking is one of the easiest forms of green travel and should be used whenever possible. By using your own two feet you can get from one place to another for free, you won't leave behind any pollution and you will also get good exercise. As a tourist, walking tours and sightseeing on foot are often one of the best ways to experience a new place.

    • 2). Use wheels other than your car if your destination is within reach. Bicycle, roller blade or skateboard. Again, you will be getting some good exercise while cutting back on costs and pollutants. Many cities now offer bike rentals and other alternatives to driving while you are away from home, so do some research before your trip.

    • 3). Take advantage of public transportation. Ride the trains, buses and subways. Try to avoid renting a car when you are out of town and use public services instead, such as shuttle vans, shared taxis, local transit systems, etc. Although you are still polluting, you are cutting back on carbon emissions by using transportation that is already available.

    • 4). Choose any alternative over flying, which uses incredible amounts of jet fuel for each trip. Instead, purchase a green vehicle, hybrids or Smart cars, something that offers good fuel efficiency and that will get you from place to place for less than the costs or waste of a flight. If you must fly, try for a direct flight as the most carbon emissions are discharged during take off and landing.Boats, as well, are very wasteful when it comes to fuel. Depending on your water location, use a row-boat, kayak or canoe.

    • 5). Carpool when possible. It is difficult to avoid driving altogether, but you can cut back on waste by minimizing the number of cars on the road and by choosing to drive fuel-efficient or alternative energy vehicles. And be sure to drive green by avoiding rapid acceleration or braking to decrease excess fuel consumption, minimizing air conditioning use at low speeds and avoiding idling unnecessarily. Also, keep your car in good shape by getting oil and filter changes, engine check-ups and making sure your tires are up to proper standards.

    • 6). Encourage friends and family to also make responsible, green travel choices. Suggest driving together in one car or walking to the market instead of driving.
