Manual cell separation or modified "Rubinstein method." The lab processes the blood to separate the mononuclear cells. The lab prefers the standard Hespan method, because this allows the entire process to be performed in a "closed" system (a sterile blood bag transfer set), greatly reducing the chances of external contamination while processing.
As of Aug 31 2011, our average cord blood sample size for our entire inventory was 92.5 ml and average stem cell yield is 91.1%.
This is above the industry standard of 70ml and 90% stem cell yield. This is higher than our competitors published numbers if you were to look at the entire inventory, not just a select portion. If the competitor cites a higher number than that, most likely they are not citing the entire inventory.
