Thanksgiving is Coming and So Are the Relatives

Thanksgiving is nearly here and once again you're stuck with not only having to cook two turkeys, make sure that the stuffing is done right, supply enough snacks until dinner time and make sure that there is enough dinnerware for everyone...
on top of all that you need to make sure that your relatives don't start getting into arguments with each other.
So how are you supposed to do that? Most families have one or two people that are...
well...
odd ducks to say the least.
These are usually the people who are the ones who are passive aggressive and like to interrupt other peoples conversations.
The are also the ones who will be quick to point out if the turkey is dry or if the gravy and mash potatoes are lumpy.
So here are a few tips to get you through turkey day.
They may be a bit comical, but they do work.
  1. Keep this person isolated as possible.
If you can bear the brunt of his or hers conversation and nagging, then it might be best for all there that you keep them in the kitchen with you or by the television watching the football game with you.
  2. Give them plenty of snacks.
The logic behind this one is that if he or she has a lot of food in their mouths, they will be less apt to be talking.
At the very least you can chastise them on eating with their mouth full while they are insinuating that you should have picked out a better blouse to wear.
  3. At Thanksgiving, it is tradition to say a toast.
Make the toast, or a part of it, to encompass this aggravating person.
This might preclude them from saying anymore nasty things as they have been toasted too and don't want to tarnish the good image that they are supposively having.
  4. Make this person in charge of keeping the kids occupied.
It will relieve you of any duties of having to keep him or her from throwing veiled insults around the room, while also keeping the kids out of the kitchen.
A win win situation for you!
  5. If this person has any sort of hobbies or interests that you could provide them with doing, do it!For example, say your great aunt loves to knit.
So have her start knitting gloves for the winter.
Explain to her that you have always wanted to know how to do this, yet haven't had the time to.
The best way that she could show you would to be getting started on the gloves and you can observe her handy work.
See! It just takes a little creative thinking.
Okay, so now you have a few ideas on how to help dealing with relatives during the Thanksgiving seasons.
