How to Make Quick Cash for the Holidays

    • 1). Go through your closets and sell unwanted items that are in good condition online, in consignment shops or at a garage sale. Look up items similar to yours on manufacturer or retail store websites to determine a fair price.

    • 2). Collect loose change each time you make a purchase and look around your house or car for change you may have dropped. Designate a change jar and ask everyone in your family to contribute.

    • 3). Become a secret shopper and get paid to shop in grocery stores, department stores, restaurants, hotels and other retail outlets. Secret shoppers write short reports that rate quality of service, cleanliness, store layout and other criteria. Visit the Mystery Shopping Providers Association (MSPA) website for a list of reputable mystery shopper companies.

    • 4). Perform odd jobs in your community on evenings and weekends. Jobs may include mowing lawns; cleaning out garages, attics or basements; handyman work; and pet or house sitting. Advertise your services using fliers or by contacting your neighbors directly.

    • 5). Find a weekend or evening seasonal job at the mall or other retail outlet to earn extra money for the holidays. Many stores hire additional help for the busy holiday season between September and December. Apply for one of these positions at the end of August to work through the holiday season. Most retailers let their holiday help go in the beginning of January but will keep employee names on file for the next busy season if they were happy with their performance.
