Dreamlike Ambience, Fine Sushi in Rio"s Botanical Garden District

Yumê, one of the finest restaurants in Rio, lives up to its name ("dream" in Japanese) with alluring ambience and a menu overflowing with good choices in sushi, sashimi, and hot dishes.

The location in the upscale Jardim Botânico district, not on the beach but near the marvelous Botanical Garden, is open for lunch on weekends, but you will want to go stop by at night, when small luminarias shed their soft light over the nicely decorated dining area and the undefoot carp pool - and you can see the night sky through the glass roof.

A romantic dinner could start with dobimushi, a light seafood consommé. Or you could choose one of the appetizers with a Brazilian touch, such as sake usugiri (salmon carpaccio with tapioca.

Then move on to an array of makimono, sushi, sashimi and a la carte hot dishes such as tempura, teriyaki, yasai itame and yakisoba.

Coming with a group? Go for one of the combos (combinados). The Mini combo, the smallest, comes with 34 pieces of sushi and sashimi; the Ogata, the largest, with 120 pieces.

Yumê has a good wine list with labels from the Côtes du Ventoux and Loire regions in France. It also serves delicate desserts such as cantaloupe balls in ginger sauce, chocolate harumaki with ice cream and walnuts and caramelized pears with ice cream and chocolate sauce.
