Kathy Ross does a great job taking the kids step-by-step through each of the craft projects introduced in this book. Each project also includes realistic illustrations done by Vicky Enright, including pictures of each supply needed to complete the project. Kids should be able to follow along and complete the projects with little or no adult help.

Many of the usual Autumn themes are covered in this book.


There are projects that explore leaves and apples, such as a Fall Leaf Lapel Pin, a Changing Tree Puppet, and a stuffed Apple. You will also find directions to create animals we associate with the Autumn season, such as squirrels and geese. Another typical Fall theme is Back-To-School, which this book also covers.

If you are looking for a craft idea for Fall holidays, this book can help you out! There are directions to make an Apple New Year card for Rosh Hashanah, a Columbus Day Hat, a Jonah into the Whale Flip game for Yom Kippur, and a Flag Magnet for Veteran's Day. There are also several ideas for crafts to make to celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Kathy Ross' creativity and her experience as a teacher and preschool director really shine through in this book. How many people would think to create a corncob out of bubble wrap or an adorable spider out of a pair of black gloves and a rock? This book makes great use out of items you might normally throw away. My only disappointment was that I did not have any old ties to make the scarecrow puppet with or two old pairs of pantyhose to make a stuffed pumpkin!

I had fun paging through this book and doing some of the projects with my children. With 29 interesting craft projects presented in this book, deciding which one to start with was the hardest part! I recommend this book for the young and the young at heart.
