How to Put a Belt on a Kirby Model G5D

    • 1). Turn the square belt knob, located on the front of the power head, counterclockwise until the red arrow on the knob lines up with the red arrow on the power head housing.

    • 2). Disengage the power head of your Kirby by lifting the release lever, located on the top rear of the head. Lift the head up and away from the body of the machine.

    • 3). Turn the belt knob until the green arrow on the knob lines up with the green arrow on the power head housing.

    • 4). Turn the power head upside-down to reveal the base plate, which is secured to the bottom with two front clips and two rear swivel clips. Turn the rear swivel clips and gently lift the backside of the base plate. As you continue to pull upward, squeeze each of the front clips to completely remove the base plate.

    • 5). Remove the brush roller by lifting it straight up and out of the power head housing. If the broken belt is still wrapped around the roller, remove it and throw it away.

    • 6). Slip the new belt over the brush roller. It should hang freely from the center of the roller.

    • 7). Line up the ends of the brush roller with the appropriate slots in the power head housing. If you examine the ends of the brush roller, you'll find the numbers 1 through 3 printed on each side. Make sure the number 1 is facing up on each side and slide the roller into place.

    • 8). Replace the base plate, securing the front clips before locking the rear swivel clips.

    • 9). Check to make sure the new belt is still wrapped around the center of the brush roller with its slack inside the power head housing.

Turn the belt knob until the red arrows are aligned. This should cause an inner hook to grab hold of the belt and stretch it into place. If the hook fails to catch the belt, return the knob to its relaxed position and adjust the belt accordingly.

Reattach the power head, locking the two hooks protruding from its lower back over the two bars on the front of the machine. Push back the head until it's flush with the machine and lock it into place by engaging the power head release lever.
