- The front wheel drive Ford Windstar was introduced in 1995 to replace the rear wheel drive Ford Aerostar model, according to Edmunds. In 1999 the Windstar was redesigned by Ford, introducing 4 versions of the Windstar, which were the LX, SE, SEL and Limited models.
