Hair follicle transplantation is something you may have heard of recently.
As one of many hair loss treatments, it is more radical and costly than lotions and laser treatment, for example.
In decades gone by, hair transplants often gave a very botched result.
At first, entire sections of the scalp were resectioned.
After that, smaller skin grafts were made but scarring and a poor look were still a common outcome.
Today, techniques have moved on further still.
The latest technique is called "follicular unit transplant".
So what exactly does this mean? What Are Follicular Units? Take a look at areas of your body where hair is an abundance.
Now, it is quite difficult to inspect the scalp closely.
This might sound strange, but for the purposes of demonstration, it might be easier to look at your pubic hair! Or the hair in your armpit.
You'll notice that these hairs are not equally distant from each other.
In fact, hairs tend to be clumped together in groups of groups of 2 or 3.
These are called "follicular units".
The latest transplant techniques take follicular units from the back and sides of your head and move them to the front of your head, where your receding hairline is.
Cost The entire procedure costs around $10,000 to $15,000 minimum.
This is a lot but if you want a good result then this is what you'd have to pay.
You may have heard of some clinics offering treatment for around $5,000 but do not expect the results to be good for this price.
The Result In general, the result is fairly good.
But there is no guarantee of a good result.
Some of the possible bad outcomes include scarring and a "plug" look that you may have noticed on some famous Hollywood stars who have had this procedure and, despite paying a lot of money, did not get a good result.
