- 1). Connect the iPhone to the computer. Download the jailbreaking software. The software can be downloaded for free from quickpwn.com, or from blog.iphone-dev.org. Locate the 2.0 jailbreak on their site and download it. Open the software and follow the on-screen instructions to jailbreak it. The instructions are easy to follow and the software requires no install; just run it. Both sites offer tutorials on how to jailbreak in case the user gets stuck.
- 2). Confirm that the iPhone is jailbroken as a new icon should appear on the springboard, called "Cydia". Unlock the phone. Open "Cydia" and go to "Search." Look for "redsn0w" and install their app by clicking on the search result then clicking "Install." The redsn0w app unlocks the iPhone. The phone should now be unlocked. Turn off the phone.
- 3). Remove the SIM card from the iPhone and insert another carrier's SIM into the iPhone. The SIM card can be removed by inserting a pin into the tiny hole on the top of the iPhone this will pop out the SIM card tray and a new SIM can be inserted. Insert the new SIM and test to make sure the iPhone is unlocked. If the new SIM works, the iPhone has been unlocked.
