The monks in the sixth century began taming birds by feeding them.
They became pets and by the 1900s people had birds eating out of their hands and their skirts whenever they sat down.
It actually was called the "national pastime".
This is a wonderful pastime for people that are fascinated with the activities of birds! This works well in your garden to draw the birds to the bird houses you already have.
The bird baths have already been set in secure places to keep the little birds secure from the prying cats-OH, I cannot imagine a more perfect spot in the world! Of course there is some work to these feeding stations.
They do not just take care of themselves.
The feeding station must be supplied food such as seeds, peanuts, bought mixes, fat, kitchen, scraps and suet.
The bird baths in your garden, if they have a little sand in them, will help to grind food to aid in digestion.
There are many kind of feeders but unless you are going to spend a lot of your time taking care of it you better read about the drawbacks first.
There are some.
But I would like to concentrate on the wonderful things it can do for your garden and for you! There are bird feeders, bird tables and tray feeders which feed many birds at a time.
But think about the economy! That would be like having a child to raise! Then of course there are bird feeders that draw birds like Humming Birds, Finches, Cardinals and Blue Jays.
The expense would be much less in this category both in house and food.
The houses are so much more attractive too.
It is appropriate that the Monks are the ones that began the tradition of bird feeding, because it takes patience and the willingness to lie back and let stress slowly escape out of every pore of your body.
As you let the stress escape you are filling those vacant spots with running water from wonderful water fountains that give you that feeling you are in the mountains listening to the stream.
You may never be able to go there again really, but this is close enough to the real thing.
You can sit by the fountain and let the water touch your fingers and dream.
You can watch the birds fly in and out of the bird houses-each one having a different style- of course I prefer Shabby Chic-what do you prefer? Then you watch the birds go to the feeders and then to the baths and get feisty with each other.
They always seem to prim themselves a little there too.
As a person with Lupus I know that one of the best things that you can do for yourselves is to make your own space where you can be out in nature, in very little sun, but can be a place of positive communication with your loved ones and friends.
Lupus brings with it a major depression factor and being around the nature aspect helps the patient fight depression.
I know that other diseases have these problems too and that is way I wanted to sell these products! You make life what it is but a nature corner in your yard or a wall running fountain could make it a lot brighter!
