When it comes to dining, Motown is best known for its soul food and its Coney dogs. Yet in the heart of downtown Detroit, less than a mile from the bridge to Canada, delicious and authentic Mexican food can be found, and not in just one restaurant. Mexican Village, also known as Mexicantown, is home to blocks of award-winning restaurants, each serving homemade Mexican dishes their own style. - Mexican Town Restaurant sits in the heart of the area known as Mexican Village. It features a patio for outdoor summer dining and inside there are two floors of seating. Of all of the spots in Mexican Village, this restaurant sits closest to the Ambassador Bridge, which leads to Canada. The restaurant celebrates that fact on Monday nights by allowing Canadian money to be spent at the same value of the U.S. dollar. Mexican Town Restaurant is best known for their flaming fajitas. Diners are also occasionally treated to a mariachi band.
