- 1). Relax. This is the most important thing to do. If you aren't relaxed, you may overreact in a situation and crash others in addition to yourself.
- 2). Communicate. If you're unsure how to behave in a group, ask others what to do.
- 3). Maintain a steady speed. Work on improving your spin and maintain a steady cadence. Know when to shift and what gear to use for different hill grades.
- 4). Hold your line. Don't wander around on the road. Concentrate and be consistent.
- 5). Identify obstacles and road hazards. Make sure to point these out to riders behind you.
- 6). Don't ride too close to other riders. Though it's important to remain in the slipstream, try not to get too close to the rider or riders directly in front of you.
- 7). Remember not to overlap wheels. This can be potentially dangerous if the rider in front of you swerves suddenly.
- 8). Do your part. When it comes time for you to be at the front of the group, take your pull.
- 9). Recover. You can't work at the front all the time. Take some time in the back, too. Drink some water and loosen up.

Have fun. Though a group ride can be competitive at times, it isn't a race.
