"Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" director Jonathan Mostow has signed on to direct the remake of Disney's classic 'family in danger' film, "Swiss Family Robinson."
Mostow will direct and rewrite the script, with Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman producing the film for Walt Disney Pictures. The original film was based on the Johann David Wyss book and followed a shipwrecked family stranded on an island (I see the joke coming and the answer's no.
No one gets voted off the island). The family has to forage for food, build a shelter in a huge tree, and try to survive with Mother Nature doing her best to make it difficult.
Commenting on the hiring of Mostow, producer Lieberman told The Hollywood Reporter, "This is going to be a priority for us. This is a big tentpole movie, and it's rare that you get someone like Mostow who makes such cool movies combined with such a classic property."
Filming is expected to begin in 2006.
Mostow has "Tonight He Comes" and the fourth film of the "Terminator" franchise in the works.
