Hummingbird Condos in Bachelor Gulch
What to Expect at Hummingbird Condos:
A 10-minute drive west of Vail, the Hummingbird condo complex sits in the exclusive Bachelor Gulch Village. At almost 10,000 feet elevation, Hummingbird comprises 40 condominiums and is divided between three buildings.
The lodge-style architecture features enormous log beams and massive stonework. In winter the resort is a secluded ski area that connects the villages above and below by the slopes, European style.
Guests can ski in and out of their lodge. In the warmer months, incredible views of verdant mountains surround the property. All year round, it is an alluring spot for vacationers who prefer isolation.
Lodging at Hummingbird Condos:
Hummingbird condos, which typically have three bedrooms, provide far more space than a honeymoon couple needs, although a family or group of friends traveling together would find one appealing. Most of the condos have an open living room area, expansive windows, spacious private decks, and queen and king size beds. Other amenities include a full gourmet kitchen, a flat screen television, DVD player, high speed Internet, a private elevator-to-condominium, a floor-to-ceiling granite fireplace, and air conditioning. Master baths boast a Jacuzzi tub and a separate Euro-style shower enclosure and marble countertops.
Dining at Hummingbird Condos:
There are no restaurants on the property, nor is there a supermarket for food shopping. Guests can pick up pricey provisions in the nearby village of Beaver Creek.
For romantic dining, couples there's Beano's Cabin in Beaver Creek Village (970-949-9090). The award-winning eatery sits 10,000 feet up Grouse Mountain and diners can choose from a seasonal American-fusion menu or vegetarian fare. In winter, Beano's is a private ski-in, ski-out restaurant. In summer guests arrive by horseback, tractor-pulled wagon or van. It is open for dinner only.
Weddings at Hummingbird Condo:
Couples who are planning a wedding can arrange religious services in the denomination of their choice at Beaver Creek Chapel (970-845-9449) in Beaver Creek. They may also arrange a reception at the Ritz Carlton (970-748-6200) in Bachelor Gulch, which has panoramic views of surrounding mountains. Beano's Cabin is an elegant restaurant option for wedding receptions. The ambiance is European-style with high ceilings, large windows, and an open kitchen. Call (970-949-9090) for more details.

The Bachelor Gulch Village Romance Package includes two nights in any one-bedroom condo in Bachelor Gulch, the greater village where the Hummingbird complex is located. The package includes a bubble bath for two, chocolates, champagne, roses on the evening of arrival, and a 50-minute in-room massage for two. There is a two-night minimum stay. Are Hummingbird Condos Right for You?:
Since Hummingbird is a privately owned condominium complex, it is not set up with the full range of services that hotels provide and most honeymooners favor. As Bachelor Gulch guests, however, you would have access to the outdoor pool and hot tub at The Ritz Carlton nearby. Though there are no restaurants on this mountainside, there is Spago Bachelor Gulch at the Ritz (970-748-6200). Without a car, guests' travel will be somewhat limited but they can get around in Village Transportation's classy shuttle buses (970-949-1938 from 6:00 a.m. until 2:30 a.m.) between Arrowhead, Bachelor's Gulch and Beaver Creek.
What Else Should You Know About Hummingbird Condos?:
Couples who are not accustomed to spending time at high elevations may find themselves uncharacteristically tired and winded at Hummingbird and other western ski areas. So take it easy for the first couple of days as you adjust to the altitude. If you find yourself feeling light-headed, dizzy, or nauseous, seek lower ground.
