- 1). Weigh your cargo on a bathroom scale. Add this number to the trailer's gross trailer weight (GTW). You can find this information on a data plate fastened to the frame.
- 2). Confirm that the trailer plus cargo weight is within the towing capacities of your FX35.
- 3). Reverse the vehicle to the trailer's coupler. Lower the coupler onto the hitch's ball and lock into place with the latch. The latch can be further secured with a cotter pin or pad lock.
- 4). Connect the trailer's chains to the vehicle's hitch in a crossing pattern under the coupler. This will catch the trailer's tongue in the unlikely event they become detached.
- 5). Connect the trailer's male electrical plug to the vehicle's female receiver. Test that the trailer lights are functioning as required by law.
- 6). Drive slower with the trailer behind you because your cornering and braking ability has been reduced due to the added weight.
