Guest Room
A typical guest room at Hotel Solamar in San Diego. The hotel describes its palette in delectable terms, "starting with fresh roasted espresso beans. Add a hot pink cosmopolitan, a juicy Granny Smith apple, and the captivating blue of a tropical aquarium."
Guest Bed
The boutique-sized Hotel Solamar has 235 guest rooms and suites, including two hospitality suites, 16 Spa King suites and 11 ADA rooms. The theme in the rooms is vaguely inspired by the nearby Southern California beaches, with a sea shell motif. The hip beach theme starts in the lobby, where an indentation in a table is filled with smooth white and grey stones.
Guest Work desk
A work desk in the room provided space to spread out a laptop computer. Hotel Solamar offers complimentary in-room Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access. I found the Wi-Fi signal to be very low in my room, but an Ethernet cable right on the desk was a quick and easy way to get up and running with high-speed Internet access.
Guest Bathroom
My King Suite (room #902) at the Hotel Solamar had two separate rooms and a large bathroom off the master bedroom. The décor carried over the beach theme with hip clean lines.
Guest Shower
My suite at the Hotel Solamar also had an extra deep soaking tub with a view of downtown San Diego and a separate shower.
Guest Suite Living Room
The living room in my suite at the Hotel Solamar had a roomy living area with a sofa, ottoman, a large chair, a television on the work desk, a refrigerator and mini bar, and a coffee maker. A large closet held a safe and animal-print robes.
View of Petco Park
Hotel Solamar is just around the corner from Petco Park, where the Padres play. This was the view from Suite 902. The park is so close, it looks like you could catch a fly ball from the rooftop swimming pool. If you have business on your mind, Hotel Solamar is also about three blocks from the San Diego Convention center.
The rooftop swimming pool deck is a highlight of the Hotel Solamar, with a lap pool, three fire pits, palm trees and a bar/cafe.
Jsix and Jbar, along with house restaurant Jsix, both are described as "California cuisine with global influences." Jsix has become the hot place to linger in San Diego Jbar serves snacks and drinks to patrons of Hotel Solamar's 13,000 square foot rooftop pool deck.
