- 1). Bring your propane tank to the gas station for a refill. You will need enough gas to keep the RV warm and cozy and for your journey. Consider bringing a spare in case you run out.
- 2). Plug in the electrical cord of your RV to an electrical source at least two days before you head out on your journey. Start the furnace and allow the RV to heat up sufficiently. It may take a day or more for the heat to circulate through the RV. You can help with this by leaving the cabinet doors open. The furnace should be running at about 55 degrees to keep the RV and propane tank warm.
- 3). Lower the temperature of the furnace from room temperature to about 50 or 60 degrees Fahrenheit to conserve propane when you are not in the RV. The propane tank will not be affected by the cold weather, but using it in cold weather means you will be using more of it. Conservation is the key to making it last.
- 4). Use the electrical source of the RV or campsite when you are parked or have arrived at your journey. This will help conserve the propane for winter use.
