Panic attack disorders are the result of too much anxiety. Anxiety is an emotion that all people feel. People assume that all anxiety is bad anxiety, this is not necessarily true.
If your ancestors had not had feelings of anxiety when they were in danger you would never be here today. Anxiety has helped humans identify dangerous situations for as long as they have been around. Imagine the scenario of someone running at you with the obvious intent of harming you. Would you try to give them a hug or would you run? Well if you were incapable of feeling anxiety you would probably try the hugging route.
The problem is that the body cannot differentiate between stress of living in a modern society and anxiety. Your body processes them the same way. A constant barrage of stress can cause anxiety and lead to panic attack disorders. These panic attack disorder start to disrupt a person life causing them to be fearful which in turn causes more panic attacks. It becomes a vicious cycle.
Panic attack disorders start as a little twinge of anxiety. This anxiety starts to grow and then before you know it your life is totally disrupted. The terror can get so bad that many people are afraid to leave their houses. When you can't leave your house without a struggle... imagine what panic attack disorders do to other facets of your life.
Those suffering from panic attack disorders are probably more than familiar with one or more of these symptoms. The most common symptoms include the fear of another attack, heart palpitations, anxiety, and an increase in heart rate. Many people often feel a feeling of depersonalization and can experience chest pains and difficulty breathing.
Any of the above symptoms can really scare the people experiencing them. These symptoms cause more anxiety which in turn causes more symptoms. A vicious cycle of anxiety starts. Once these events are put into motion your anxiety just snowballs until you cannot handle it anymore.
The best thing about panic attack disorders is that they are easily treatable. Most doctors will prescribe you some sort of medication. But if you are like me you hate the "drugged" feeling that they give you, and you don't want to end up addicted to these pills.
Although they may seem to last forever, panic attacks typically only last for a few minutes. Those few minutes can feel like forever though. The best way to treat panic attack disorders is to learn to modify the way you react to anxiety. This can be done with breathing exercises and learning what your anxiety triggers are and how to diffuse them.
