- Students often drop out of school due to disabilities. In fact, twice as many students with disabilities drop out than their same-age peers, reports the National High School Center.
- Students who do not graduate from high school will earn less than high school and college graduates. Students who drop out of school are more likely to receive public assistance because young women who drop out of school are more likely to have young children as single parents than their counterparts, according to National High School Center. Furthermore, dropouts are more likely to have health problems than those who stayed in school and graduated, according to Solutions for America.
- To prevent students from dropping out, schools must improve the curriculum and enhance the connection between school and work--according to Solutions for America. Schools should also provide academic support for struggling students, including tutoring and summer school.
