How to Draw a Capacitor in Series Picture

    • 1). Determine the voltage and type of power supply for your circuit diagram. This is important because the capacitor symbol is different on the positive side than the negative side.

    • 2). Determine the location you wish to place your capacitor in the circuit diagram. For the capacitor to be in series, all the current flow in the circuit must be forced through it, which is the definition of a series circuit. Parallel circuits have multiple pathways for current to flow.

    • 3). Draw the capacitor symbol. Make a small line, about half inch long, intersecting perpendicularly to the power supply pathway.

    • 4). Erase 1/4 inch of the power supply pathway line on the opposite side of the line drawn in Step 3 as the positive terminal of your power supply. Draw here a curved open bracket symbol followed by a continuation of the power supply pathway. What you have in front should look like this: [+DC] ----|(----- [-DC]

    • 5). Label each capacitor in your circuit diagram as C1, C2, C3, and so on, beginning at the positive side of the power supply, ending at the negative side of the power supply.
