- Before you can purchase applications for your iPod touch from iTunes or the App Store, you'll need to sign up for an Apple ID, which you can do on the Apple website for free. Your ID will be used to confirm purchases made for your iPod touch, and can also be used to manage MobileMe accounts, at Apple retail stores or to log in to Apple support on the Web.
- The App Store comes standard on your iPod touch. The icon for the store is blue and on the first page of the homepage by default. Once in the App Store, search for specific titles or browse the most popular downloads; to purchase and download an app, tap "Buy Now" and then enter your Apple ID and password. Purchases made in the App Store are added to your computer's iTunes library the next time you connect to your computer if automatic syncing is enabled. If manual sync is enabled, click on the "File" tab and then "Transfer purchases from iPod."
- Applications purchased through iTunes on your computer may be transferred to your iPod touch. Plug your iPod into your computer via its USB cable. If automatic sync is enabled, the new applications will automatically be added to your device. If the iPod touch is set to sync manually, click on "Apps" in the "Library" section of the sidebar and drag the applications to the name of your iPod. A copy of the application will remain in the iTunes library.
- Whether you are purchasing applications from your iPod device or iTunes account on a computer, an Internet connection is required. Activate Wi-Fi on your iPod touch by going to "Settings" and "Wi-Fi" and tapping the "On" icon. The iPod touch will automatically search for nearby wireless networks; select one by tapping on the name. On a computer, wireless, broadband or dial-up Internet will allow you to download apps in iTunes.
