Changes To Expect As A Woman Grows Older

Wouldnt it be wonderful if one stays young forever! Every woman wishes for this but alas, no elixir has yet been discovered for this. Until such time that a great mind will come up with a solution, women will have to go through with this process. To prepare women for this eventuality, here are some things that one may expect.

Cardiovascular System
Perhaps one area that the aging process may have a profound effect is in the cardiovascular system. As one grows older, heart rate may decline slightly and the heart may also enlarge. Blood vessels and arteries may not be as efficient as before causing the heart to pump more blood. These conditions may lead to hypertension and other heart-related problems which have proven to cause high mortality rates.

Bones, Joints, and Muscles
Pains in the bones, joints, and muscles would appear to go hand in hand with aging. It would be a surprise to see an older person who does not have any musculoskeletal complaints. This is explained by the tendency of bones to shrink in size and density as one grows older making it vulnerable to fractures. Aging also makes the muscle lose strength and flexibility making it prone to injuries and pains.

Digestive System
Insofar as the digestive system is concerned, the most common problem associated with aging is constipation. This may be due to the fact that older people tend to follow a low-fiber diet, do not drink adequate quantity of water, and are generally sedentary. Medical disorders and certain medications may also contribute to frequent constipation.

Eyes and Ears
Aging brings along problems with the eyes and ears. It may become difficult to focus on objects without glasses, diseases of eyes become very common, and adjusting to different levels of light may become difficult. Hearing problems may also be experienced as one grows older.

Skin
Even as early as the 40s, one may notice changes in the skin. As one grows in years, the skin becomes thinner and may lose its elasticity making it very sensitive. The skin may also become drier since aging may cause a decrease in the production of natural oils. These factors make it possible for older persons to have wrinkles, age spots, and be prone to skin bruises.

Weight
Older people, particularly women, may find it very tough to maintain the ideal weight. It may take tons of effort and commitment to be successful in getting the desired figure. The decrease in muscle mass as one ages may explain this. This loss of mass is then taken over by body fat which burns fewer calories than muscles, making it necessary to take in fewer calories just to maintain the present weight. The tendency for older people to overeat and the lack of physical activity may add to this problem.

Sexuality
Changes in the sexual aspect may also be expected as one gets older. The onset of menopause may cause lack of lubrication resulting to vaginal dryness which makes any sexual contact uncomfortable. Certain medical conditions and medicines regularly taken may also have a negative impact on womans sexual function. In some women, a negative body image may contribute to this problem.
