- 1). Open the cabinets underneath where the kitchen sink drain is installed. Look for the water supply valves for the faucet in the sink above. Turn the handle on the end of the faucet knob to the right to cut off the water supply for the faucet.
- 2). Open the faucet and allow any water inside to escape. Use a pair of pliers to unscrew the couplings connecting the water supply hoses to the underside of the kitchen faucet. Remove the plastic retaining ring fastening the faucet to the sink surface. Pull the faucet up and off the sink.
- 3). Place a bucket or other large container underneath the bend in the kitchen sink drain. Loosen the couplings on either side and pull the curved p-trap out of the sink plumbing. Invert the p-trap over the container and empty the contents inside.
- 4). Loosen the retaining clips holding the sink in place underneath the counter. Run a sharp utility knife around the caulk holding the sink in place. Gently lift the sink up and off the countertop. If needed, wedge a putty knife underneath the edge of the sink so you can lift it up easier. Pull the center drain sink out of the countertop.
- 5). Use the putty knife to clean off the surface of the counter. Remove any old caulk or putty. Clean any mold or mildew with a standard kitchen countertop cleaner.
- 6). Insert the silicone caulk into the caulk gun. Trim off the end of the caulk gun. Apply a bead of caulk around the perimeter of the sink opening in the counter.
- 7). Lower the rear drain kitchen sink into the space on the countertop. Press it into place. Get underneath the sink and tighten the sink clamps just enough to hold the sink in place.
- 8). Apply silicone caulk around the perimeter of the drain opening. Press the drain flange and basket into place in the drain. From beneath, secure the flange with the jamb nut and any washers that were included.
- 9). Rough in the plumbing for the rear sink drain. Since the drain is in a new position, you won't be able to use the old drain plumbing. Take your PVC bends, elbows and traps and hold them into position between the rear drain and the sewer inlet. Connect a straight tailpiece to the underside of the rear drain sink. Between the tailpiece and the sewer inlet pipe, you will need a p-trap to keep sewer gases trapped in your sewer. How this is cut and which other elbow or straight pieces you will need depends on your particular installation. When you are satisfied with how the pieces fit together, secure them by tightening the couplings or gluing with PVC primer and glue.
- 10
Secure the sink in position by tightening the clamps all the way. - 11
Apply silicone caulk around the openings for the kitchen faucet. Insert the faucet so that the threads on the bottom poke through the rear drain kitchen sink. Secure the faucet from below with the plastic retaining nut. - 12
Apply pipe thread compound to the threads on the underside of the faucet. Reconnect the water supply hoses and tighten the couplings.
