- 1). Sign up for an account with Tax Slayer if you want to file your taxes for free. Tax Slayer has a browser-based, step-by-step tool for filling out your forms and submitting them electronically. This service allows you to "free-file" if you're under 25 and make less than $57,000 before taxes (adjusted gross income or AGI). You can also file for free if you're in the military or you're 65 or older. People who get the Earned Income Credit (EIC) and anyone who makes less than $10,000 can also file for free. TaxSlayer also offers free state tax filing to some customers as well.
- 2). Try the TurboTax software from Intuit to file your taxes for free online as another alternative. Navigate the TurboTax Freedom Edition software from your browser to complete your return then submit it online. You can file for free if you made $31,000 or less in AGI, were serving in the military and made $57,000 or under, or qualify for the EIC. Some states also offer free-filing to qualified customers---see the website to see if your state is a part of that list.
- 3). Use TaxACT online as a third alternative for filing your taxes for free. You can register for an account immediately or sign up later on and try out the service without any obligations first. You're allowed to file for free online with this tool if you estimate that your AGI is $57,000 or less and you're between 19 and 55 years old.
