Youth camp allows you to have fun and expand your horizons.
While the former is obvious, how do you ensure that the latter takes place?Hence, you make a conscious decision to make the most of camp and you take specific steps to make learning a priority.
The following seven suggestions will help you to prepare for a phenomenal growth experience.
7 Ways to Prepare
- Think about what you want to learn.
What you would like to happen? For example, you might decide to learn as much as possible about the people you meet.
Or, you might want to learn about the land that surrounds the facility.
Take some time to reflect on your objectives.
- Make a list.
List two or three goals that you would like to achieve.
Review the list before you go to camp, while you're at camp, and after you return home.
The probability of achieving a goal is higher when it is written down and when you review it on a regular basis.
Otherwise you might forget your objectives.
- Take a journal.
The end of the day would be a good time to do so because the details are still fresh.
Besides, you might forget them due to the many activities scheduled throughout the day.
Or, compile all of your notes at the end of camp, when you have time to look back and reflect.
- Ask questions.
If you don't understand something don't be shy about asking for clarification.
More than likely, someone else has the same question but is afraid to speak up.
At the end of every day, ask yourself what lessons were learned.
- Commit to being open minded.
An open minded person seeks new opportunities, takes some risks, and adapts to different situations.
- Avoid negative thinking.
For example, do not frown upon group activities.
You know that they will occur, so condition your mind to welcome working with others in groups.
- Write a contract with yourself.
Keep it brief; a short paragraph will suffice.
Post it in your bedroom or wherever you spend a lot of time.
Review it daily, especially during the weeks leading up to camp.
