Gay and Lesbian Teen Poetry
What do you do when you need to get something off your chest or when you want to express how you are feeling? For some GLBT teens, poetry can be both a wonderful form of expression and a way to work through their feelings.
Here are a few reader poems.
How I Feel Today
By, BatRay
I'm an amazing person.
You said so.
You wrote it on a pale green piece of paper,
Folded up and hidden in my drawer.
You said you do love me, in a way.
I extracted from those scribbled words the meaning I needed,
Pretending it was the way I wished it was.
The voices say f***.
The voices say small,
Weak,
Stupid,
Girl.
The voices say girl, girl, girl,
And it doesn't matter if we were meant to be together,
Because I'm a girl
And you're a girl
And girl doesn't love girl.
The voices say dy**.
The voices say slut.
Girl,
Stupid girl,
What were you thinking?
The voices come.
The voices laugh.
I'm sinking,
And all I have to defend myself
Is a piece of paper,
Pale green,
Folded up and hidden in my drawer.

Sooner Than Soon
by HaleyGavin
Rain has rusted in my head
Pain is ingrained in my scars
Emptiness is a void in my bed
Desire weighs down the stars
Scratch away the rust
Rub the weathered flakes off my trust
Tell my scars and the sadness I stole
That they are the roadmap to the soul
Fill the new place in my bed
And kiss my head
My heart is crystallized in frost
My lips are unused fresh fruit
I am a river no one has ever crossed
"I love you" is a crisp, unused suit
Warm me up and melt me down
Keep my arms and your arms bound
Help my lips bloom and ripen
My rivers waters will deepen
And pull you along
That worn suit is still holding strong
Holding strong
Let's float up like balloons
And then we will touch the moon
While you sleep I'll sing this tune
And we won't wake up until noon
And I'll love you sooner than soon
I'll love you sooner than soon

Says You
By, Kinda_Sorta_Me
You say I have unrealistic standards
I say I'm tired of being hurt
You say I'm boring
I say I'm just playing it safe
You say you'll be here forever
I say how long is forever anyways
You say you love me
I say love is just a word
Just Don't
Don't hold me too close to you
I just might not want to let go
Don't say such sweet nothings
I just might get swept away
Don't be everything I want you to be
Not when you're leaving
Don't kiss me after you've said goodbye
It hurts worse than you could know
Don't do what you said you would
It's a promise I want you to break
Don't come back to me again
I can't let you drop me for her
Again
