- 1). Pour a couple ounces of white vinegar in a spray bottle and set it aside.
- 2). Tie your horse up in a wash area, or somewhere near a hose where you don't mind the ground getting wet.
- 3). Show your horse the bucket and let him smell it so he doesn't spook.
- 4). Walk to the back of your horse with one hand on his body at all times so he is aware of where you are.
- 5). Gather up his tail and put it in the bucket. Lift the bucket as high as you can to get as much of his tail in the bucket as possible.
- 6). Hold the bucket in one hand, and pour the vinegar down his tail with your free hand, starting at the base and going down. When you get to the hair in the bucket, just fill the bucket and swish the hair in the bucket around with your hand.
- 7). Use your free hand to spray the vinegar in the bottle over the part of his tail that is not soaking in the bucket. You want his hair soaked with vinegar, so use up the bottle.
- 8). Let his tail soak in the vinegar for five minutes and then rinse it out with a hose.
- 9). Shampoo your horse's tail and rinse it with the hose. Apply conditioner if you choose.
