Sleepaway camp can be a rewarding and thrilling experience for kids during the summer. Camp teaches leadership skills, responsibility and community through daily activities. There are sleepaway camps throughout the country. Some popular ones are in Connecticut. - Situated on 700 wooded acres and featuring a private lake, Incarnation Camp is one of the country's oldest co-ed camps. Formed in 1886, campers and staff come from all over the United States and even from different countries. Sherwood, the girl's camp, is for ages 7 to 13 and features recreation, nature and arts programs. Water sports, including fishing, rowing and the 100-foot water slide are also popular. The FarmHands program teaches the girls to feed and care for farm animals. Pequot, the camp for boys aged 7 to 13, features funyaking (inflatable kayaking), water trampolines and land sports such as softball and basketball. Hiking and camping are also popular. Incarnation Camp also features Pioneer Village, a co-ed camp for 14- and 15-year-olds. The camp features two four-week programs which teach leadership skills and personal responsibility. The teens work in teams to plan and prepare adventure treks. Activities are also supervised by certified staff.
