FDA Rulings, Silicone Breast Implants Make A Huge Comeback Since 2006

In 2006, the Food And Drug Administration has re-approved the use of silicone breast implants. Since then, the numbers have grown in a huge way in breast augmentation cases. Fox News says that the new numbers which were taken from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery or ASAPS reveal that 72% of all implants are made of silicone. This is huge because it was just only 19% in 2006.

Because of the number of complaints of ruptured devices in 1992, FDA imposed moratorium on silicone breast implants. Also, worries regarding related health concerns like rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases were rising. But, after more meticulous studies, testing and a couple of advisory panels, the ban was lifted since the said institution couldn't find any links on health concerns.

FDA worked along with plastic surgeons as well as the manufacturers on giving out safety data. They did actually warn that around 20 to 50% of women who have had silicone implants may really need replacement in 10 years. Experts also said that there are still risks for complications. That's the reason why it's important for women to do their homework regarding the procedures and also to make sure that they go to the right plastic surgeons.

Fox News says that there have been huge changes in making these silicone breast implants. The shape of which as well as the sizes have been improved to create a much better contour. These days, it's firmer and more stable. Old implants had risk for leaking out especially when ruptured. This simply means that there will be more flexibility in the looks, there will also be more choices for women. It will also be safer to remove if ever complications occur.

Saline breast implants are still covering 28% of the market which also has benefits in it. These implants can be made larger and can be filled with solution that's easily absorbed by the body if ruptured. Incisions are also smaller and easier to hide. ASAPS also suggest that lift on silicone implants may helped push breast augmentations back to the forefront of cosmetic procedures. Liposuction previously was the most common of choice for those who want to go for surgery.

Getting help from credible plastic surgeons is the best way to attain the best of results. If you are planning to have one, it's best that you look for a board-certified plastic surgeon for available help if there's any.
