Monday Head over to El Cuartel de la Boca del Monte in Barrio La California.
For years now, Monday nights have become the one thing to do in town to begin the week in full party mood.
Tropical music band; Marfil, plays dance music, and covers, until the last man/woman is left standing.
There's no cover for women and drinks are cheap.
Because of its popularity, Monday nights at El Cuartel are the perfect setting to meet fellow tourists and bohemian locals.
The club was built inside a turn of the century house and was remodeled to pay tribute to Costa Rican history.
The rest of the week, El Cuartel is known for its delicious tapas and Latin cuisine, as well as for being a stage for up and coming national artists.
Tuesday The National Museum in downtown San Jose has been recently renovated and now boasts impressive permanent collections, as well as a charming butterfly garden where you can see some of the country's unique butterfly species (over 600 specimens live there at the moment).
Seasonal exhibitions change throughout the year and chances are you might run into a newly curated spotlight for a local artist or historical artifacts.
After you're done with the museum, walk a few steps towards one of the city's biggest souvenir markets and after all the shopping has worn you down, cross the street and enjoy exotic dim sum at Wong's, one of the city's most notorious Asian restaurants.
Wednesday Spend the day at the Museo de Arte Costarricense (Museum of Costa Rican Art) housed in a lovely spot of the Sabana Park.
There you can see the works of several local and international artists, organized by their respective time period.
Don't leave without visiting the Golden Room; a breathtaking work of carving done by French artist Luis Féron Parizot in 1940.
In the evening head down to Lubnan, an intimate Lebanese restaurant in Paseo Colón.
Enjoy their exquisite cuisine (you have to try their veggie platter and cheese custard!) stay for the belly dancing.
After the show is over, hit the bar in the back and relax.
Thursday The Museo de los Niños (Children's Museum) might sound like a quirky option but think of it as an educational amusement park.
Adults can enjoy playing with the installations, and why not learn a thing or two in the process.
If you prefer your fun a bit more "grown up", head over to the Parque de Diversiones, where you can enjoy rides, see live musical performances and visit "Pueblo Viejo", an attraction that recreates an old fashioned Costa Rican Town.
As night hits, go over to Home Lounge in Via Lindora for a few drinks and a relaxing time.
Friday Just a few minutes from downtown San Jose you'll find Spirogyra Butterfly Garden.
This sanctuary is located in one of the last forested parts of the capital, and is a charming place where people can learn about the environment and share an exotic paradise with its multicolored inhabitants.
The night offers countless possibilities but among our favorites are Vertigo, in Paseo Colón, for a night of dancing (mostly electronica, so make sure you're well hydrated) or head over for a quiet, gourmet dinner at the restaurant in the Grano de Oro hotel.
The have the best crème brulee in town! Saturday Shopping day! You can start at the Central Market where you will find all sorts of exotic foods, souvenirs and one of the most authentically Costa Rican environments in town.
Afterwards you ca head over to the organic market in Aranjuez (only held on Saturdays!) where you can mingle with farmers who will love to tell you about how they grow their own produce.
The market is also a perfect place for brunch.
Make sure you try their all vegan meals, we can assure you, bacon won't be missed...
As the afternoon hits, take a ride to Multiplaza in Escazú for a couple of hours of high end stores and maybe even a late movie show.
Sunday Pack a basket and have a jolly picnic at the Sabana Park.
Sundays are family day, so you'll see lots of children with kites, skates and pets.
Relax under the sun and take a walk down the park's fresh paths.
Afterwards head over to the café at the Grand Hotel Costa Rica where you can have a cup of coffee, a glass of wine and some of the best focaccia in San Jose.
Piano player gets there at four, so relax and get ready for an afternoon filled with jazz and piano standards.
