Adult Reentry Scholarships

    Osher Reentry Scholarships

    • The Bernard Osher Foundation offers the most comprehensive, nationally-available source of adult scholarships through the Osher Reentry Scholarship Program. Preferential consideration is given to applicants who are between the ages of 25 and 50. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible. Applicants must be pursuing their first bachelor's degree, and must be returning to school after an interruption of at least five years. Students must apply through the university at which they plan to attend; the Bernard Osher Foundation does not make grants directly to students.

    Reentry Scholarships for Women

    • Several national organizations offer reentry scholarships limited specifically to women. For example, the Society of Women Engineers offers two national scholarships valued at $2,000 to women reentry students pursuing degrees related to engineering, as well as one local to Washington state and another local to New Mexico. The company Talbot's offers scholarships valued at between $1,000 and $10,000 to women who have experienced a gap in their education of at least 10 years. The organization Executive Women International offers the Adult Students in Scholastic Transition Scholarship in the amount of $2,500.

    Local Scholarships

    • Some organizations across the country offer scholarships to local adults who wish to re-enter college. For example, the American Legion Auxiliary Department of California offers scholarships of $500 to $1,000 to non-traditional students returning to school. Also based in California, the Zonta Club of the Conejo Valley Area provides several scholarships of up to $1,000 to area women returning to college. The St. Louis Community Foundation offers the $2,500 Janice Mosby Scholarship to reentry students who are 23 or older.

    School-specific Scholarships

    • Many schools offer scholarships specifically limited to non-traditional and reentry students. For example, University of Minnesota students may be eligible for the $2,000 4-H Adult Scholarship for Workforce Reentry. The University of California-Riverside Alumni Association offers a reentry scholarship to students who are 25 or older and have been out of school for at least two years. The Arizona State University Retirees Association Reentry Scholarship is awarded each year in the amount of $6,500. Be sure to apply for any and all reentry and non-traditional student scholarships offered by the university you plan to attend.
