Remove Toilet

• 1). Turn off the water supply. Most newer toilets have a valve underneath the tank that controls the water flow. If your toilet does not, turn off the water supply to your house.
  
  
• 2). Lay several layers of towels on the floor. You will be setting the toilet tank and bowl on the towels to protect them from damage.
  
  
• 3). Remove the tank cover and flush the toilet several times to empty the tank. Soak up any lingering water with the sponge.
  
  
• 4). Disconnect the water supply hose from the toilet tank with the adjustable wrench.
  
  Hold the top of the bolt in place with the screwdriver while removing the bolt underneath the tank with the adjustable wrench. You may want another person to help you by holding the screwdriver.
  
  
• 5). Lift the toilet tank off the toilet. Place it on the layers of towels to protect the tank from damage.
  
  
• 6). Soak up any water remaining in the toilet bowl with the sponge.
  
  
• 7). Remove the caps covering the bolts on either side of the toilet base. Remove the nuts with the adjustable wrench.
  
  
• 8). Place your hands on either side of the toilet bowl and gently rock the bowl back and forth to loosen the old wax seal. When it feels loose, lift the bowl up off the bolts. Set the bowl in its side on the pile of towels.
  
  
• 9). Plug the drain hole with rags.
  
  

Install Ring

• 1). Pry the old wax ring off the floor and/or the base of the toilet bowl with the putty knife. Scrape off any wax residue with the wire brush. Clean up any dust and debris, and make sure the floor and the toilet bowl base are completely dry.
  
  
• 2). Unwrap the Oatey ring and press it firmly into place around the outlet on the bottom of the toilet.
  
  
• 3). Remove the rags in the drain hole and place the toilet bowl in place. Make sure the bolts go through the bolt holes on either side of the toilet base. Rotate the toilet bowl slightly in either direction. This spreads the wax and creates the seal.
  
  
• 4). Replace the nuts and the caps. Set the tank back in place and replace the bolts and nuts. Replace the water supply hose and turn on the water supply. Flush the tank several times to fill the tank.
