Even if that is not the case, a charitable donation in memoriam is preferable in that it contributes to the deceased's legacy and honors her wishes. Like keepsakes, the boulders and trees are specifically made to be memorials, and they have a hollowed-out place for ashes, hair and sentimental trinkets. Or, if it's financially feasible, consider having a small, more permanent one erected on the deceased's church grounds or some place where they spent time or had influence.
