- 1). Type in your local newspaper's website. They are all different, so it is impossible to tell you the exact web address to type. If you don't know your newspaper's website address, type the name of the paper and the name of your city into any search engine. Newspapers have online classified ads. In fact, the ads online typically have more houses for rent because advertisers can choose to list on both the Internet and the newspaper, or exclusively on the Internet.
- 2). Go to Rentals.com and select the option to search houses for rent. This website lists houses, apartments, and condos, so you will want to make your desired options clear. You can also set your desired price range. Any house above or under that range will not come up on your results page.
- 3). Search Craigslist.org for your desired location. Craigslist has almost every major city in every state listed. This is a huge online classified ads database. There is an entire section for real estate. The first link in that section is labeled, "apts/housing." Click on that link.
- 4). Check out FSBO.com for homes for sale by owner. Many times these owners are willing to rent their house to someone to help them pay their mortgage for a while. Especially in a down real estate market, FSBO is a terrific place to look.
- 5). Look at RentalHomesPlus.com for more rental home listings in your particular state. Many real estate investors list the homes for rent on this website. Unfortunately, since they are seasoned investors, you probably won't get any sort of a discount.
