    • Alyeska is a year-round resort offering winter and summer activities with lodging at Hotel Alyeska, where guests can book ski and accommodation packages. Located 40 miles from the capital city of Anchorage, the resort is in the valley town of Girdwood beneath the Chugach Mountains. The Chugach State Park is the third-largest state park in the United States. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, the resort facilitates helicopter skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, cat-skiing, ice climbing and dog sledding. The resort is also known for its 300-foot-long super pipe. Summer visitors can use hiking and biking trails.

    Moose Mountain Ski Resort

    • Moose Mountain has a southern exposure, which means the resort enjoys a lot of sunlight and is protected from cold air blowing from the northeast. Located outside Fairbanks, the ski resort is much warmer than the town. The terrain for skiers is extremely varied, and the resort is a good destination for groups or families of mixed ability. A fast and regular bus service takes skiers to the summit.

    Eaglecrest Ski Area

    • The Eaglecrest ski area is situated on Douglas Island near the city of Juneau. It consists of Alpine runs and looped trails for Nordic skiing, and terrain for snowboarders. Trails for hiking and biking attract summer visitors to the resort. The Eaglecrest Foundation is a nonprofit organization that raises funds and works with the local community on charity and educational projects.

    Alpenglow at Arctic Valley

    • Alpine skiers, Nordic skiers and snowboarders come to Arctic Valley, which is known as a family-oriented destination. The terrain is wide enough to prevent crowding, and the area is popular with families with young children. The valley has conditions akin to back country without having to venture into the real back country. The lodge organizes activities for children, such as sledding and building in the snow. Located 10 miles from Anchorage, the area is used by the Anchorage Ski Club, founded in 1937.
